2 Mayıs 1936'da Jangseong'da doğdu.Kore Savaşından sonra iş aramak amacıyla Busan'a taşındı.Daha sonra 1956'da Seoul'a taşındı.Bir süre asistanlık olarak görev yaptı.1961'de yönetmenliğe başladı.
